Bielsko-Biala is located in the southern part of Poland, in the Silesia province, an hour drive south of Katowice and approximately one and half hours south-west of Krakow. The city is the main industrial, commercial, academic, cultural and tourist center of the region commonly known as Podbeskidzie. The high quality of life it provides causes its steady growth. Ranked by the Forbes magazine as the second best city for business in Poland, it is a leader of enterprise development. While keeping the pace with the most recent developmental trends, it is also a place where one can relax and spend many pleasant moments. It has cultural institutions: museums, theatres and concert halls, as well as plenty of restaurants, pubs and bars. It is know for its beautiful walks in the neighboring mountains.
The city is a good base for exploring the Beskidy Mountains. Hikers have at their disposal many marked tourist routes that start in Bielsko-Biala or its suburbs. Among the most favored attractions is a gondola lift that goes to Szyndzielnia (1026 m). It is only about twenty minutes waking distance from our School. The journey in gondolas, which take the maximum of six people, is over 1800 meters long, taking passengers 450 m from the bottom level. It offers a lovely view of the city and surrounding areas. It also gives an easy access to the mountains with their forests where one can find many species of birds and wild animals, charming mountain paths, and rustic tourist stations, some of them dating back to the nineteenth century, where one can rest, have a meal, spend an evening at a camp fire, and stay overnight.
Bielsko-Biala region is an exceptionally interesting part of Poland, combining the beauty of nature with the richness of culture and rapidly developing enterprise. The city is well connected by roads and railways not only with Warsaw and other major cities in Poland, but also with Vienna, Bratislava and Prague. If you want to visit Krakow or go to Wadowice, where Pope John the Second was born, there are cheap, frequent buses that go there. Flying to Bielsko-Biała is also easy. The closest airports are Krakow and Katowice. However, you can also use Prague, Warsaw or Vienna.
